A Strong Hot Spot Theorem

چکیده

A real number α is said to be b-normal if every mlong string of digits appears in the base-b expansion of α with limiting frequency b−m. We prove that α is b-normal if and only if it possesses no base-b “hot spot.” In other words, α is b-normal if and only if there is no real number y such that smaller and smaller neighborhoods of y are visited by the successive shifts of the base-b expansion of α with larger and larger frequencies, relative to the lengths of these neighborhoods.

Data-Flow Analysis for Hot-Spot Program Optimization

A hot spot of a program is a program region, whose execution time crucially impacts the overall execution time of the program. A hot spot can often be optimized without fully analyzing the whole program. This is supported by approaches for demand-driven data-flow analysis. Particularly successful in practice turned out to be an approach based on reverse data-flow analysis. In this paper, we rec...

Geographic correlation between hot spots and deep mantle lateral shear-wave velocity gradients

Hot spot volcanism may originate from the deep mantle in regions exhibiting the Earth’s most pronounced lateral S-wave velocity gradients. These strong gradient regions display an improved geographic correlation over S-wave velocities to surface hot spot locations. For the lowest velocities or strongest gradients occupying 10% of the surface area of the core–mantle boundary (CMB), hot spots are...

Relationship between Hot Spot Residues and Ligand Binding Hot Spots in Protein-Protein Interfaces

In the context of protein-protein interactions, the term "hot spot" refers to a residue or cluster of residues that makes a major contribution to the binding free energy, as determined by alanine scanning mutagenesis. In contrast, in pharmaceutical research, a hot spot is a site on a target protein that has high propensity for ligand binding and hence is potentially important for drug discovery...

Evaluating variation of Hot Spot Location in order to radiobiological calculation of Organ at Risk in High-dose- rate Brachytherapy of Cervical Cancer

Introduction: Gynecological malignancies present challenges in determining an appropriate volumetric dose due to the highly variable physiologic activity of the surrounding tissue. Because of the high doses used in brachytherapy, surrounding structures have the potential to move around in the dose region and receive unknown amounts of radiation. Calculating hotspot region from ...
